Wide Awake : Artwork 4

A single oversized drop form, mounted proud in a rectangular frame — the coloured shape and the flat architectural container reading as two separate objects in deliberate dialogue. The teardrop is one of the most psychologically loaded forms in visual culture: simultaneously water, flame, seed, and the shape of a falling moment. In Japanese aesthetics this is mono no aware made physical — the bittersweet awareness that beauty and impermanence are the same thing. The two-tone construction and the relief mounting make this one of the most spatially bold pieces in the collection. It works best in an intimate vertical space: a powder room, a bedroom alcove, anywhere one strong form is exactly enough.
