Friendly Phantoms : Artwork 2

Spook does not need to move to own the room. The inner body is left completely smooth and unbroken, a quiet plane that floats above a wide drip-base where the material dissolves into dense bubble perforations that spread outward like a shadow with a life of its own. The contrast between the two surfaces is not accidental. It is the whole design. In figure-ground theory, the eye is drawn to the element that holds still while everything around it moves, which is why Spook, despite doing absolutely nothing, is impossible to ignore. The still one always wins.
