Body in Motion : Artwork 9
A ballerina with one arm raised within a tall portrait frame, her tutu constructed from layered feather-petal cutwork — the skirt built like a flower head, each tier a separate botanical form. Botanical stems rise on both sides of the figure: a rose in full bloom at the upper right, a leafed branch at the left, turning the frame itself into a garden. The figure does not break the frame — she is contained within it, at home in it, as if the garden grew specifically to hold her. The Romantic ballet tradition placed the female dancer explicitly within nature, not above it. This piece makes that spatial relationship architecturally literal. For a bedroom feature wall, an entrance foyer, or any tall vertical surface where the image of something thriving in its proper environment is exactly right.
