Arabesque Thresholds : Artwork 4

Three interlocked Muqarnas rosettes — the kind that appear at the pendentive junctions of a Safavid mosque ceiling, where each cell is simultaneously a load-bearing structural element and ornament. Each rosette is complete in itself; together they form a larger field whose boundaries feel provisional, as if the pattern is mid-expansion. The Muqarnas stalactite system was developed precisely to resolve the geometric problem of transitioning from square to circle — from the earthly to the celestial. What appears to be pure surface decoration is in origin an engineering solution.
