Arabesque Thresholds : Artwork 3
Where strict compass-and-rule Zellige geometry gives way to branching, organic growth — closer to the mushrabiyya woodwork of Fatimid Cairo, where craftsmen pushed the interlocking geometric logic into forms that feel almost biological. The outer boundary is irregular, as if the piece were a fragment cut from a larger living field rather than a complete object. The difference between this and the classical Zellige work is the difference between a tiled floor and a growing hedge: the same underlying order, but one follows the rule and one follows the organism.
