Arabesque Thresholds : Artwork 1
An eight-pointed star radiates outward through successive rings of arabesque scrollwork, each zone locked into the next by a shared geometric logic, contained within an octagonal frame. The octagon is borrowed from the squinch — the architectural device Islamic builders used to transition from a square room to a circular dome — and the eight-pointed star is the foundational tiling unit of classical Islamic geometric art, present from the Alhambra to the Friday Mosque of Isfahan. At scale, the shadow the piece casts shifts with the light and creates a second, moving composition behind the first. A defining piece for a majlis feature wall, entrance foyer, or any interior where the first impression should feel architecturally grounded.
