Arabesque Thresholds : Artwork 13

One pointed arch containing a Mashrabiya field with an eight-pointed Girih star at its centre, the outer silhouette borrowing from the cloud-scroll border of Nasrid stucco work. The Mashrabiya window in Andalusian domestic architecture was not a barrier but a negotiation — the carved wooden lattice allowed airflow, diffused light, and maintained interior privacy while framing views outward. The cloud-scroll outer edge is the ornamental vocabulary used on the spandrels of the Alhambra's Comares Tower. As a single arch at scale, the piece has the presence of a window without the obligation of a view.
